7 Stunning Selections to Boost your Modern Skincare Routine with MR PORTER.
Last week, Off The Cuff LDN were kindly invited to ‘geek out’ about grooming with MR PORTER’s very own Deputy Editor, Mr Ashley Clarke.
Amongst a host of skincare enthusiasts, the event provided a delightful platform to discuss how the modern man’s skincare routine has changed, and what it might look like in the future.
Showcasing a number of the finest skincare brands currently on the market we quickly dived into current trends and how the men’s grooming sector is enjoying far less stigmatisation for modern day men.
A huge thanks to all who attended (@ashleyjclarke, @livingwiththelins, @manforhimself, @ondrej.navartil, @carlthompson, @omgbart, @jocelynyih and @jess_punter) and for providing such great commentary on the following skincare selections.
Modern Skincare Routine with MR PORTER – Aesop Purifying Facial Cream Cleanser
Aesop are definitely one of my ‘go to’ men’s grooming brands. As a long time customer of Aesop, and having tried an array of their products, there is very little they can do wrong in my eyes.
The facial cream cleanser is a staple of my skincare routine and has been for quite a while. Despite it’s clay like consistency the cleanser doesn’t feel too thick on application. The cream spreads easily and leaves your face feeling cleansed and refreshed.
This facial cream is recommended for all skin types. As I suffer from relatively sensitive skin, I’ve found that the cleanser is gentle and reduces redness when used on a morning before starting the day.
Having experienced glowing results over a long period, this offering from Aesop takes pride of place in my cabinet and will take some shifting.
Modern Skincare Routine with MR PORTER – 111SKIN Rose Gold Illuminating Eye Mask
111SKIN strive to bring the best of Harley Street to your home.
Their Rose Gold Eye Mask aims to rekindle your natural glow after wearing for just a short time.
Having not particularly dabbled in eye masks before, this product was one of the top performers from our discussion. Receiving ‘glowing’ praise across the board. I certainly felt the under-eye area was uplifted and refreshed after a few short minutes of using the eye mask. The perfect product to utilise pre-zoom calls.
As Carl pointed out during our discussion, bearded gents tend not to favour full face masks. Any kind of facial hair or beard just seems to complicate matters during application and removal. As such, I was thankful to sample the Rose Gold Eye Mask.
Modern Skincare Routine with MR PORTER – Dr Dennis Gross Stress Rescue Super Serum
The use of serums in the modern skincare routine seems to be picking up. In the same way moisturisers have seen a surge in demand within the men’s grooming industry, serums now look to be the next big thing as any remaining ‘taboo’ around male grooming is lifted.
There are a number of serums on the market and choosing the right one for you can be tricky. Personally, I have tested a number of serums in an attempt to combat mild rosacea.
This offering from Dr Dennis Gross looks to be a game changer. Powered by niacinamide (B3), superfoods, and adaptogens, the serum combats the 5 signs of stress-induced ageing.
In just a short space of time I have noticed a significant boost to my complexion. For me, this was the stand-out product from our discussion.
Modern Skincare Routine with MR PORTER – Homme Eisenberg Gel Contour Des Yeux
Eye-area care became a priority for me after a long period of working night shifts. In reverse to the general population I found myself applying eye-care products at strange times of the day depending on my sleep pattern. In any case, it’s not an area to neglect.
Homme Eisenberg have developed this gel contour to regenerate, energise and oxygenate tired eye areas using a trio-molecular formula.
The gel formula benefits are immediately evident providing a fresh lift to the area and reducing puffiness. This is a genuine high-tech skin restorer; rich in vitamins A, E and Plant Oils.
Modern Skincare Routine with MR PORTER – Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream
Having read a lot of press around the release of this product, I was intrigued to finally sample The Rich Cream for myself.
Strangely enough, the cream was produced by an individual not particularly familiar with the skincare industry at all. ‘Engineered’ by a German scientist, the brand rocketed to popularity without any kind of classic resource you would expect from a high-end skincare brand.
The cream itself is based on TFC8 (trigger factor complex 8). The formula complex activates your stem cells, thus encouraging regeneration.
Early impressions are positive from using The Rich Cream and I am well on my way to achieving the 27-day cycle of incredible benefits. (Brand recommended time frame).
Modern Skincare Routine with MR PORTER – Dr Barbara Sturm Sun Drops
Naively, I previously neglected to incorporate SPF into my skincare routine. After listening to some insightful testimony within the discussion I now know how important it is.
Protecting against against both UVA and UVB rays, the light-textured serum doubles as skincare and helps calm the skin, reducing visible signs of irritation.
“My SUN DROPS are a unique hybrid of sunscreen and skincare, marrying broad spectrum sunscreen ingredients with anti-aging and anti-oxidative ingredients that deal with the after effects of sun exposure.” Dr Barbara Sturm.
Modern Skincare Routine with MR PORTER – Susanne Kaufmann Obsidian Face Roller
As before, I first started using a face roller when I previously worked night shifts. At first I was slightly sceptical but I thought there was no harm in giving it a go. I’m glad I did.
Even on the face of it, improving blood flow to the face can only a positive thing. Massaging tissues provides for better circulation. As a result, this action can help with under-eye circles, wrinkles, acne, and helping skincare products absorb more easily into the skin.
The Obsidian Face Roller from Susanne Kaufmann is the pinnacle of skincare tools. The minimalist elegance of the roller is a thing of beauty in itself.
Bart educated us on how the materials were sourced and the background to the brand is truly inspiring. I will certainly be looking to travel to Austria and check out the Susanne Kaufmann spa at some point in the future.
In the meantime I will continue to utilise the face roller whilst writing articles and sending emails from my desk.
